Water can do a lot of damage to a home, and it can do it fast. It’s a good thing, then, that there are some easy things you can do to protect your home. Here’s what homeowners should know about stopping water damage before it starts.
Seal (Or Reseal) Your Basement
If there’s water seeping into your basement after it rains or snows, it’s time to seal (or reseal!) your basement. This can be as easy as spraying sealant over cracks or it may involve getting professional help.
Direct Water Away From Your Home’s Foundation
Make sure that all of your gutter downspouts send water at least 6 feet away from your home. That way, it won’t add to the water already in the soil and risk oversaturating it. All of that water has to go somewhere and it can end up inside your house!
Get a Backwater Valve
Sewer backups can cause water damage and more! Backwater valves allow sewage to flow out but not back in. Even if you have a sewer problem, this valve should save you from having to deal with sewage inside your home. Installing one of these can save you a lot of stress and hassle later.
Perform Regular Inspections
Look over the hoses in your house at least once a year. Make sure they aren’t cracked or broken and that they don’t have small leaks. If you spot any problems, replace them right away. Otherwise, they could cause a surprising number of water damage issues.
Turn Off Water Supplies Before You Travel
Find the water supply valves for your sinks, washing machine, and more. Before you leave home, turn these off. This prevents most floods while you are gone. Since standing water causes damage fast, this could save you quite a bit of hassle and heartache when you return.
Find Your Main Shut-Off Valve and Know How to Use It
The main shut-off valve turns off water to your entire house. If you find a leak or something starts spraying water everywhere, this is the fastest and most direct way to stop the flow of water.
Most of the time, these valves are in your garage or your utility area. Turn the knob or the lever all the way to the right to stop the water flow. Then, don’t use any water in your house until you fix the problem and turn it back on!
Install an Emergency Pressure Relief Valve
If you are concerned about frozen pipes and the pressure that can build up behind them, consider an emergency pressure relief valve. These help prevent burst pipes even if they do freeze, and they are relatively easy for a professional plumber to install.
Emergency Water Damage Restoration, Mold Restoration & Duct Cleaning. We’re Here When You Need Us.
When you call us with an emergency, you get a Core24 Services employee everytime, any day, any hour. Not an operator. During business hours this is a given with almost every company, but at 3 am, now that’s a different story altogether. When calling Core24 Services in the middle of the night you get someone who lives by a set of core values. Someone who is already waiting for the call. Waiting to help as soon as the call comes in.
Directly after receiving your call and getting your information to respond, an on call Lead Technician is contacted. This individual is also waiting for the call. They already know, water never stays where it belongs on a Friday night.
All vehicles and equipment are ready to go 24 hours a day 7 days a week. Once the call comes in, we gather info and leave as soon as humanly possible. Not allowing for anymore damage to take place. You see, our goal is to respond as fast as possible to prevent further damage.
We’re Here For You, 24/7
No midnight operators, no weekend robotic communication, no info gathering workforce. You get us, the ones on the way, the ones already ready, the ones trained and prepared for this.
Our process is simple, but effective. Why? Because we all know it’s coming. Communication and perceived expectations allow us to move quickly and effectively. During business hours we allow for enough resources to handle the next problem someone may have.
We are proud to announce that we are changing our name to Core24 Services!
Don’t worry, though, because we still plan to offer you the same quality of customer service and excellent craftsmanship that you have come to know and love. Our team is not changing and neither are our values.
Why do we feel like we need to take this step? Read on if you want to know more.
Why the Change?
We are known as a premier mold and water damage restoration company in Delaware and Maryland, but the truth is that we do so much more than that! In fact, we want to be known as the company you can call on 24 hours a day before the water damage happens or the mold takes over part of your house.
Over the last 4 years, since we started the company, we have picked up additional skills, along with the required training and certifications to go along with those. Some of those skills don’t tie easily to the old business name, because they aren’t always associated with a home’s environment.
Core24 Services reflects who we really are and who we want to be for you. We offer the core services that you need to make your home a safe place where you and your family can thrive. Whether you need us before or after any damage occurs, we are here for you 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.
What Do We Offer?
If you’re looking for mold remediation or water damage restoration expertise, we still have that. However, we have added some other services that we think you’ll love because they will make your home a safer, happier place to live.
If you need any of these offerings for your home, call us at Core24 Services today! Remember, we’re here 24 hours a day, so contact us whenever your need arises and we’ll be there soon with the friendliness and expertise you’ve come to rely on from our team!
